With the recent expiration of Green Mountain Coffee’s K-Cup patent (in October of this year), we can’t help but wonder what exciting new brands and flavors we can expect next.
Green Mountain certainly paved the way by getting millions of Americans to buy the single serve coffee pods their Keurigs needed, and Green Mountain coffee was also the only company legally allowed to sell these pods. The other brands you’ve seen on the shelves were done in partnership with Green Mountain, i.e. Starbucks, Nescafe, Caribou, etc.
Many have speculated that with the soon-to-be increasing competition with Green Mountain, the company may be headed towards financial trouble. We have faith they’ll be just fine, though, as they consistently offer new varieties of k-cups, they have a pretty loyal and consistent customer base, and produce the product on a much larger scale than most competitors are able to.
It should be a win-win for everyone, especially us – the consumers. Can’t wait to see what’s in store!
